Real estate agents and Realtors |there’s a difference| are out to get your business. Duh!

But here’s the thing, the nuts and bolts of real estate are changing, marketing is radically changing (by the hour it seems) and above all YOU are changing. Buyers and sellers are smarter, more informed, engaged and more than ever probably overwhelmed!

So what does the typical real estate agent try to do about that…you guessed it GET your business. Websites/blogs are designed to draw you in with hot this or featured that…listings, listings and more listings and enough ‘stock’ photos and tepid |keyword rich| boiler plate neighborhood information to make your head spin. We use tricks to get your email, your number and we’ll flat out beg for you to LIKE or FOLLOW us. Too often it’s ALL about US!

We’re out to change that!

Here’s what the remarkable Seth Godin says about how we should treat you…

Permission marketing is the privilege (not the right) of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who actually want to get them. It realizes that treating people with respect is the best way to earn their attention.

Real permission is different from presumed or legalistic permission. Just because you somehow get my email address doesn’t mean you have permission. Just because I don’t complain doesn’t mean you have permission. Just because it’s in the fine print of your privacy policy doesn’t mean it’s permission either.

Permission is like dating. You don’t start by asking for the sale at first impression. You earn the right, over time, bit by bit. If it sounds like you need humility and patience to do permission marketing, you’re right. That’s why so few companies do it properly. The best shortcut, in this case, is no shortcut at all.

That would be pretty cutting edge if it wasn’t written in 2008! I paraphrased Seth’s article I hope you’ll read the entire article here (maybe you know a real estate agent who needs to read this!)
